December 9, 1997 <br />JERRY EAVES <br />SUPERVISOR, FIFTH DISTRICT <br />Karl E, Gaytan, Mayor <br />City of Colton <br />650 North La Cadena Drive <br />Colton, 92314-2893 <br />De an: <br />In 1995, the County, 12 of the 15 cities within the San Bernardino Valley, the U.S. Fish and <br />WIdlife Service, the California Department of Fish and Game, and several utility companies <br />signed a Memorandum of -Understanding (MOU) to prepare a Multi -Species Habitat <br />Conservation Plan (MSHCP) for the San'Bemardino Valley. As you, know, the plan has not <br />gone forward due to a lack of funds. However, the County has recently received $400,000 from <br />the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the U.S. Department of the Interior. Even though <br />this amount is not enough to complete the entire plan, it will allow us to proceed with the <br />biological and land use data collection work that needs to be done. <br />The current version of the MOW terminates as of December 31, 1997. 1 am requesting that <br />your jurisdiction approve a revised MOU that identifies December 31, 2000 as the new target <br />date for final approval of the plan and the new termination date of the MOU. <br />Please process and sign the revised MOU as soon as possible and return it to Randy Scott, <br />Planning Manager, Land Use Services Department, 385 N.
