Garcia, City Manager <br />FROM: Daryl J. Parrish <br />SUBJECT: Joint Use Agreement for Facility Use Between the Colon Joint <br />Unified School District and the City of Colton for Use of the Colton <br />Community Center Swimming Pool <br />DATE: January 12, 1998 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />During the past few weeks, City staff and Colton Joint School District ("District") staff <br />have been working on an agreement for the District to use the Colton Community <br />Center Pool for its swimming and Water Polo teams. District staff is seeking approval <br />from the Board of Education at its January 15, 1998, meeting and has requested that <br />City staff present the agreement to the City Council in advance of that date. <br />Heating the pool at times when it has historically not been heated provides the <br />opportunity for the City to provide aquatics programs to the public during times of the <br />year when they have not provided in the past. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The salient points of the agreement are as follows: <br />• the District agrees to pay 50% of the heating costs of the pool facility during <br />the time of usage by the district <br />N <br />the District agrees to provide certified and qualified lifeguard service when <br />they are using the <br />pool <br />• .the District will provide all necessary pool/sports equipment to be utilized <br />during the swim program <br />� <br />� <br />• the agreement will be effective from February 16, 1998 through¢ <br />approximately May 14, 1998. The agreement may be extended through <br />1999, by mutual consent of both <br />parties <br />• :the District shall maintain liability insurance with the City named as <br />additionally named insured <br />prior to the commencement of activities. <br />REQUEST FOR THIS ITEM TO BE <br />VOTED ONTO THE JAN. --F3-,1998 <br />COUNCIL AGENDA - CONSENT CALENDA <br />
