Parrish SUBJECT: Joint Use Agreement for Facility Use Between the Colon Joint Unified School District and the City of Colton for Use of the Colton Community Center Swimming Pool DATE: January 12, 1998 BACKGROUND: During the past few weeks, City staff and Colton Joint School District ("District") staff have been working on an agreement for the District to use the Colton Community Center Pool for its swimming and Water Polo teams. District staff is seeking approval from the Board of Education at its January 15, 1998, meeting and has requested that City staff present the agreement to the City Council in advance of that date. Heating the pool at times when it has historically not been heated provides the opportunity for the City to provide aquatics programs to the public during times of the year when they have not provided in the past. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The salient points of the agreement are as follows: • the District agrees to pay 50% of the heating costs of the pool facility during the time of usage by the district N the District agrees to provide certified and qualified lifeguard service when they are using the pool • .the District will provide all necessary pool/sports equipment to be utilized during the swim program � � • the agreement will be effective from February 16, 1998 through¢ approximately May 14, 1998. The agreement may be extended through 1999, by mutual consent of both parties • :the District shall maintain liability insurance with the City named as additionally named insured prior to the commencement of activities.
