EXECUTIVE SUMARY <br />Recreation is an important component that has been shown to have significance in the <br />social development of everybody, from youths to senior citizen's lives. Many educators <br />consider recreation to be an indispensable element of the core curriculum of schools and <br />as a vital component to the education of all children. Studies have shown recreation <br />courses to be helpful in creating a better understanding of living skills with high levels of <br />tolerance between children of different backgrounds. Recreation can heighten children's <br />self-esteem on an individual basis. The elevated concept of self, through the study of <br />cultural diversities, particularly using the vehicle of recreation, was shown to be <br />conducive to a better learning and living environment in the inner city. The children <br />within the program, especially of low-income families, need quality recreational activities <br />in their lives in order to promote social acceptable skills. The Gents Junior Management <br />Program offers the participants challenging, educational and fun activities, which are <br />rewarding to the youth and to society in general. <br />To address the need for recreation in the lives of disadvantaged children and adults Joe <br />Rodriguez, President approached the Gents to initiate such a project. Recreation <br />programs have been designed to emphasize many educational and independent living <br />skills as objectives. The overriding, themes facilitate and encourage children and adults <br />to live and learn together through recreational activities. As individual activities are <br />enhanced, children will also develop better independent living skills. Important parts of <br />The Gents' program are lectures, field trips, and recreational demonstrations. It is <br />conceivable that some of the youth will become recreational professional experts on <br />aspects of the recreational experience or simply citizens who are in need of recreational <br />activity participation through the Gents' project. The project is designed to encompass <br />recreational instruction by skilled adults and mentors as well as related field trips to <br />special sites of cultural significance. Children take part in approximately 60 hours per <br />week without grown-ups even knowing about their participation. Through this program, <br />skilled adults will supervise the activities. The recreational program model has been in <br />existence for over a century in the United States. It is safer to state that this project can <br />
