CITY OF COLTON <br />LIFEGUARD <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under general supervision this position is responsible for assisting in lifeguarding at a community <br />swimming pool. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: <br />Guards pool. <br />Assists in the instruction of swim classes. <br />Maintains pool and equipment. <br />Keeps proper written records. <br />OUALIFICATIONS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Aquatic programming for various age groups. <br />Record keeping and statistical computations. <br />Ability to: <br />Work effectively with the public. <br />Participate and assist in a variety of aquatic activities, including swim lessons and special <br />events. <br />Perform light pool maintenance and follow written and oral instructions. <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: <br />Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and <br />abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be by: <br />Experience: <br />Participated in a variety of aquatic activities and services or volunteer work with youth, <br />adult and senior citizens. <br />Training: <br />High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by specialized aquatic courses in <br />application, instruction and theory. <br />LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: <br />Possess a Standard First Aid and Advanced Lifesaving Certificates and Cardio -pulmonary <br />Resuscitation (CPR) certificates. <br />APPROVED BY COUNCIL: JULY 5. 1995 <br />
