CITY OF COLTON <br />POLICE DISPATCHER I & II <br />PAGE 2 <br />Maintains contact with all units on assignment; maintains status and location of police field units. <br />Monitors security of police facility and alarm board. <br />Answers non -emergency calls for assistance; contacts appropriate agency as necessary. <br />Coordinates emergency calls and relays information and assistance requests involving other law <br />enforcement and fire fighting agencies. <br />May train new employees in dispatch, including record keeping and teletype operation. <br />Enters, updates and retrieves information from computer and teletype networks relating to wanted <br />persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other information. <br />Performs a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing, and other general clerical work required to <br />document dispatch activities and provide resources for field offices. <br />Tests and inspects equipment as required; reports faulty equipment. <br />Performs related duties as assigned. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Police Dispatcher I <br />Knowledge of: <br />Basic office procedures including, but not limited to filing, telephone etiquette, and office <br />machine operation. <br />Ability to: <br />Understand and follow oral and written instructions. <br />Learn the geographic features and streets of the City. <br />Learn and follow standard broadcasting procedures and rules. <br />Learn and utilize a wide variety of codes and computer commands. <br />Spell Accurately. <br />Work various shifts as assigned. <br />Type at a speed necessary for adequate job performance. <br />Learn to operate computer terminal and other office equipment quickly, accurately and, at <br />times, concurrently. <br />Learn to dispatch police units quickly and effectively. <br />Speak clearly and precisely. <br />c:\pershaze\jobs\PODisp I&II.doc <br />
