CITY OF COLTON
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of September 15, 1998
TO:
Honorable Mayor and City Council
APPROVAL:
Henry T. Garcia, City Manager
FROM:
Thomas K. Clarke, Utility Director t
SUBJECT:
Lease of Utility Property to Tiger Rescue
DATE:
September 9, 1998
Tiger Rescue is a non-profit organization for the care and housing of retired animal actors. They are being
forced to leave their present location in Riverside County because of encroaching residential
development. They are earnestly seeking a new location for their sanctuary.
The Wastewater Division owns property on the south side of Agua Mansa Road,- which could be made
available to Tiger Rescue. There is approximately six acres at the site where the old sewer treatment
giant was located. The Wastewater Division has no plans to use the property now or in the immediate
future. A lease could be developed that would accommodate the needs of the Tiger Rescue group and
provide a use of the property.
The Wastewater Division does not want to sell the property at this time. A structured lease would be a
suitable transaction that would result in development of the corridor and a reasonable use of the vacant
land. Alternatively, the City could deny the request and decline to deal with this organization's proposal.
All costs for the on-site occupancy would be borne by the Tiger Rescue group.
At this time no adverse environmental impacts are anticipated for the proposed use of the property.
That the City Council authorizes the City Manager to negotiate and execute the lease with Tiger Rescue to
permit the relocation of the animal sanctuary to the City of Colton.
Item # 23
