Additionally, the position requires near vision in <br />reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer, and acute hearing is required <br />when proving phone service and communicating in person. The need to lift, drag, and push <br />files, computer reports, or other materials weighting up to 25 pounds also is required. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills <br />and abilities necessary for a Senior Office Specialist. A typical way of obtaining the <br />required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of increasingly <br />responsible clerical experience, preferably including public contact and a high school <br />diploma. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. <br />Modern office practices and procedures. <br />Business letters and report writing. <br />Modem office equipment including a computer and applicable software. <br />Proper public contact and telephone methods and techniques. <br />Advanced principles of arithmetic. <br />Ability to: <br />Learn, understand, interpret, and apply policies and procedures. <br />Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. <br />Enter and retrieve data from a variety of computer software applications. <br />Compile and maintain records and prepare complex reports. <br />Understand and carry out oral and written directions. <br />Work independently. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships. <br />Skill to: <br />Type at a speed of 50 words per minute from clear copy. <br />Operate an office computer. <br />APPROVED BY COUNCIL: February 17, 1998 <br />
