WAORMINA
I N D U S T R I E S
A CALIFORNIA CORPORATION
July 28, 1999
Mr. David Zamora, Director
City of Colton Community Development Department
659 N. La Cadena Drive
Colton, California 92324
RE: Colton Planning Commission File Index Number DCV -33-99
Dear Mr. Zamora,
This letter transmits is an appeal of the Colton Planning Commission File Index Number
DCV -33-99 for the property located at 2059 West Steel Road in the City of Colton. The
Planning Commission denied our request for a Major Variance that would allow a metal
building at the subject property on July 27, 1999.
The use of a metal building was proposed after numerous meetings with staff from the
City Manager's office, Community Development and the City legal counsel. As
discussed with your staff, metal buildings are a standard in the waste industry for the type
of processing facility we are proposing. The waste industry in southern California is
arguably one of the most competitive in the country. In consideration of the industry
conditions in this area, we requested a Major Variance to allow us to remain competitive
in the waste market. Our hope is to create a partnership with the City through a sharing of
the benefits associated with this approach to developing the site. This will give us an
opportunity to provide competitive rates for disposal and thereby attract more material to
our site. Therefore, we are appealing the decision to deny our request for a Major
Variance to build a metal building at the subject property.
Should you require any additional information or have any questions, please contact me
at (714) 238-3343 at your convenience.
Sincerely,
TAORMINA INDUSTRIES, INC.
c<
Jo E.
