Surrounding Zoning & Land Use: North: SP/Industrial Park/Interstate 10 Freeway South: SP/Industrial Park/Steel Road, HCS Cutler Parking/Storage Facility East: SP/Industrial Park/American Self -Storage Facility West: SP/Industrial Park/interstate 215 Freeway PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Taormina Industries, Inc., which is dba (doing business as) Colton Disposal, is proposing to establish and operate a solid waste recycling center and transloading facility on an existing 6.14 acre parcel, located at 2059 Steel Road. The proposed project includes the operation of a truck storage yard (for company refuse trucks), utilization of an existing 3,200 square foot cinder block building for truck maintenance and repair, and the installation of an 11,550 square foot metal building for tipping and processing of clean recyclable commodities. The proposed project will also include construction of a 4,500 square foot building for administration and operations, a parking area for employees, customers, and support vehicles, and storage areas for bins, roll -offs, and other equipment. The applicant is proposing to develop the project on approximately two acres at the center of the parcel. The remainder of the property will remain vacant until future expansion of the facility is necessary. The property is zoned SP for the Santa Ana River Redevelopment Project Area Specific Plan, and has a land use designation of I -P (Industrial Park).
