MAINTENANCE WORKER 1/11 Page 2 of 4 CITY OF COLTON As assigned to the Public Works Department • Trims, prunes, weeds, mows, irrigates and edges City parks and various other right of way areas that need general landscaping; plant and/or transplant flowers, bulbs, shrubs, trees and other plant life. • Assists tree trimming crews in trimming and pruning of trees; removes trees and shrubs utilizing appropriate tools and equipment; cleans and maintains work areas; picks up tree branches and bushes from work areas and transfers to appropriate refuse areas. • Assists asphalt crew with street repairs which may include performing semi -skilled duties relative to skin patching, crack sealing, reconstruction's, overlays and utility cuts. • Performs a variety of semi -skilled duties with a concrete crew; assists in the pouring, setting, forming and finishing of concrete for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, sewer manholes, catch basins, and other improvements. • Assists the paint crew and/or sign fabrication crew; paint and stencil of streets, curbs and parking lots; operates paint strippers and spray guns; mixes and prepares paints; paints City buildings and facilities; assists with installing, repairing and maintaining traffic and street signs as necessary • Performs general maintenance on some aspects of an irrigation system; replaces sprinkler heads on a routine basis or as necessary. • Performs a variety of semi -skilled and limited skilled manual work in assisting in carpentry, construction, maintenance and repair of City buildings and facilities. • Performs routine general maintenance of City buildings and facilities; cleans restrooms, sweeps and mops floors; arranges rooms for meetings and other special events; replaces light bulbs, performs limited plumbing duties; and makes other basic repairs as necessary. As assigned to the Cemetery • Prepares and completes interments and disinterments. • Trims, prunes, weeds, mows, irrigates and edges Cemetery, right-of-way areas, and undeveloped property that need general landscaping; plants and/or transplants flowers, bulbs, shrubs, trees and other plant life. • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment for gravesite preparation such as a backhoe, small tractor, lawn mowers, shoring equipment, earth tamping devices, and coffin/vault lowering devices. • Marks gravesites and locates plots on Cemetery maps. • Opens and closes grounds and facilities every day of the year; directs visitors to specific areas of the cemetery; provides other public assistance as requested. • Performs skilled manual labor to assist in minor maintenance and repair of the Cemetery Office and facilities. • Operates computer for the purposes of maintaining vendor, mortuary and related agency lists, searches for information on plots and decedents. • Assists in the maintenance of files and records relative to cemetery operations. As assigned to the Utility Departmen Performs semi -skilled and limited skilled manual tasks related to water operations including laying, tapping and general maintenance of water and sewer lines.
