MAINTENANCE WORKER 1/11 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />• Constructs and maintains headwalls, catch basins and steel and concrete pipe installations. <br />• Removes and installs water meters and fire hydrants. <br />• Assists in troubleshooting and testing water meters and various flow rates. <br />• Performs general landscaping work around water meters, mains and other water services or <br />equipment; clears any roots and overgrown areas; mows, trims, prunes and weeds as is <br />necessary. <br />• Maintains records of installations and repairs of meters and other services. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, <br />turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand <br />movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision <br />when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, <br />equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the <br />incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot, and cold. <br />The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals which may expose the employee to <br />fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb <br />ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy <br />equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Maintenance Worker 11 <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills <br />and abilities necessary for a Maintenance Worker 11. A typical way of obtaining the <br />required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of experience performing <br />duties directly applicable to assigned area of responsibility and a high school diploma. <br />Maintenance Worker I <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills <br />and abilities necessary for a Maintenance Worker 1. A typical way of obtaining the <br />required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of one year of experience performing <br />duties directly applicable to assigned area of responsibility and a high school diploma. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid, class C California driver's license. <br />Possession of a class B California driver's license is desirable for some positions. <br />Possession of a Grade I Water Distribution Operator's license issued by the American <br />Water Works Association is desirable for some positions. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of-. <br />Street, parks, irrigation and other public works construction and maintenance equipment, <br />The operation, care, and preventive maintenance techniques for light duty trucks and <br />equipment, and assigned power tools. <br />
