GARCIA, CITY MANAGE <br />n <br />FROM: DAVID MICHAEL DAVIS, CITY LIBRARIAN <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT & RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE <br />APPOINTMENT TO THE FULL-TIME POSITION OF LIBRARY CLERK I <br />AND RATIFICATION OF APPOINTMENT TO THE FULL-TIME POSITION <br />OF LIBRARY ASSISTANT I IN THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: JANUARY 7, 1999 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />There is one (1) vacant full-time Library Assistant I position in the Library Department. There <br />will be one (1) vacant full-time Library Clerk position when the above position is filled, due to a <br />promotion. Attached are the job descriptions of these classifications. The salary range of <br />Library Clerk I is $1256 - $1527. The salary range of Library Assistant I is $1733 — $2105. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />Recruitment for the position of Library Clerk I will be conducted and an eligibility list established <br />upon Council approval. Per prior Council approval, recruitment for the position of Library <br />Assistant I has been conducted and an eligibility list established. The candidate chosen meets <br />the education and experience requirements as specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Funding availability for these approved general fund positions in the fiscal year 1998-99 budget <br />is as follows: acct. #100-6250-6250-1010 (Salary) and acct. #100-6250-6250-1100 (Benefits). <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE <br />As soon as possible. <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT <br />Library Clerks check out library books and other materials to library customers. Library <br />Assistants answer reference questions, catalog, and process materials. Both positions are <br />essential to the basic operation of a library. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council approve the recruitment and ratification of employee appointment to the <br />full-time position of Library Clerk I in the Library Department and approve ratification of <br />employee appointment to the full-time position of Library Assistant I in the Library Department. <br />This request has been reviewed and approved by the Library Board of Trustees. <br />Attachment,: Job Descriptions <br />Item # 6 <br />
