CITY OF COLTON <br />PARKS MAINTENANCE CREW LEADER <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the direction of the Recreation Services Manager, will lead, oversee, review, and perform <br />work activities and duties assigned to the parks maintenance crew; assume responsibility for the <br />more difficult and complex tasks; and perform other related tasks as necessary. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Parks Maintenance Crew Leader is the advanced journey level class within the <br />maintenance series with responsibility for leading and overseeing the work of crews responsible <br />for park maintenance. <br />Incumbents in this classification are subject to the Alcohol/Drug Testing requirements of the <br />Department of Transportation. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Exercises technical and functional supervision over lower level maintenance personnel. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to thefollowing): <br />• Lead, oversee, review, and perform the work of staff responsible for parks maintenance <br />including irrigation system maintenance, tree and brush maintenance, and general landscape <br />maintenance of City parks and rights-of-way. <br />• Supervise the operation and maintenance of parks maintenance equipment and/or machinery <br />including heavy equipment. <br />• Assist in the training of lower level personnel in the areas of work; ensure adherence to safe <br />work methods, procedures and practices; identify training opportunities and needs; make <br />recommendations to higher level staff. <br />• Coordinate assigned work activities with other work crews within the City and outside <br />organizations such as PG&E. <br />• Evaluate work sites and determine equipment material, and personnel needs for the task at <br />hand; obtain necessary equipment and tools; coordinate and schedule the utilization of <br />maintenance personnel. <br />• Perform routine field checks to ensure work accuracy and proper and safe work methods by <br />members of the maintenance crew; enforce compliance with proper work methods and safety <br />regulations. <br />Maintain accurate records for work in progress, completed, and planned. <br />Maintain an adequate inventory of commonly used materials by maintenance crews; initiate <br />purchase requisitions to acquire necessary materials and equipment. <br />Read and interpret blue prints, schematics, drawings, sketches, and other documents. <br />Place road barricades and cones to set up a safe work area for work crews; perform traffic <br />control duties as necessary. <br />Respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as is <br />appropriate and resolve service complaints. <br />
