ENGINEERING/GIS TECHNICIAN <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for an Engineering/GIS Technician. A typical way of obtaining the <br />required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of experience as an <br />Engineering/GIS Technician or performance of related work and two years of college <br />level coursework in a fully accredited college or university with a major in GIS, <br />engineering or a relaied field. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of or ability to obtain a valid class C California driver's license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />ESRI product line inclusive ofArcView, ARCANFO, MapObjects, ArcExplorer. <br />AutoCAD software product line. <br />GIS concepts, inclusive of computer system hardware and networks, cartographic <br />methods, and spatial analysis techniques. <br />Engineering principles relating to geographic issues. <br />Municipal organizations and functions. <br />Complex principles and practices of a Utility Department. <br />Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations. <br />Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. <br />Methods and techniques for basic report preparation and writing. <br />Methods and techniques for record keeping. <br />ill t <br />Work independently. <br />Courteously respond to community issues, concerns and needs. <br />Apply applicable laws, codes, and regulations. <br />Understand and follow instructions. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships. <br />Skill to: <br />Effectively utilize tools of the trade. <br />Operate a motor vehicle on City Streets. <br />
