LEAGUE OF
CALIFORNIA
CITIES
1P_3n-&jk) e -_a
i' usn,
Cob k..
{r
GCcr c a
1400 K STREET
SACRAMENTO, CA 95814
916 658.8200
City Council - City Manager
LEADERSHIP TEAM WORKSHOPS
Wednesday — Friday, January 19-21, 2000"
Kellogg West Conference Center, Pomona NOV 0 '.ccQ
CITY t w .. .
lVMAYOfi'S OFF16E
Who Should Attend...
• Mayors and Council Members
• City Managers
Benefits You'll Get...
• Skills to improve communication among the members of your policy team.
• How to better fulfill your individual roles as council member.
• How to negotiate for what you want without giving in.
• How to enhance decision-making as a group.
• What you and your colleagues need to make decisions and how to get it.
• Leadership and communication skills you can use in all aspects of life.
• How to create a climate to find common ground.
This workshop will enable you to assess and improve your working relationships at the
top level of the city's leadership, while still respecting honest differences in opinions,
principles and approaches to problems.
The workshop will not, however, provide a forum for team members to discuss specific
substantive issues before the city. In fact, workshop participants are advised not to engage
in such discussions. The sessions are designed to emphasize team -building issues which are
of general interest to city officials.
Unlike other League conferences, the format of the sessions are not conducive to
participation by spouses or guests of attendees. Spouse and guest attendance is
discouraged.
The minimum number of participants from each city is three (two elected officials and
the city manager). Past participating cities have found it best to have the full council
participate.
The workshop site was selected for its appropriateness to the format of the sessions. The
site offers a quiet setting perfect for concentrating on learning and skills building. Because
of the nature of the sessions, all who register must commit to arrive on time and stay for
the entire session.
1F This workshop is worth 4 credits in the Elected Officials Leadership Academy.
Be sure to register early because space is limited. Only advance registration is
available for this workshop.
January Workshop Registration Deadline: November 30, 1999
"A similar session will be held in Northern California in early June, 2000, announcements will be
sent in November.
