R-96-99 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF COLTON RE -NAMING <br />WEST VALLEY PARK TO GEORGE E. BROWN JR. PARK. <br />WHEREAS, Resolution R- I 16A-93 which was adopted by the City Council of the City <br />of Colton on November 16, 1993 established standards for the naming of the City's parks, <br />public features and community facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, Resolution R -116A-93 specifically provides that the City Council may <br />name City Parks in honor of individuals who have served their community in an exceptional <br />and distinguished manner; and <br />WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has evaluated the contributions of <br />George E. Brown Jr., distinguished Congressman; and <br />WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has unanimously determined at its <br />meeting held on October 20, 1999 that the contributions of George E. Brown Jr. to his <br />community in general and, more particularly, to the citizens of the City of Colton have had a <br />profound, positive effect; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council, has reviewed the recommendation of the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission. After hearing public comment on the issue, the City Council concurs <br />that Congressman George E. Brown Jr., through exemplary leadership provided a strong <br />political voice for the residents of Colton. He served the citizens with integrity and became a <br />positive role model for the people of his community. He has made a historically significant <br />contribution to his community and the residents of the City of Colton. <br />
