CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For the Council Meeting October 5, 1999 <br />To: Honorable Mayor & <br />Approval: Henry Garcia, City <br />From: Dennis Morris, Human Resource Directorh <br />Carolyn Jones, Childcare Manager <br />Subject: Award a sole source contract to T. Berry Brazelton for a childcare seminar <br />on January 11 & 12, 2000 in the amount of $20,000 <br />Date: September 27,1999 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Internationally respected pediatrician Dr. T. Berry Brazelton is available to headline a two-day <br />seminar (there are only ten a year nation wide) for benefit of parents, childcare/medical <br />professionals and interested members of the community. The State Department of Education, the <br />funding source for Community Child Care, is one of the seminar sponsors. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />Dr. T. Berry Brazelton is an internationally renowned and loved pediatrician who commands the <br />respect of doctors, psychologists, social/childcare workers and families alike. A prolific writer <br />and researcher, (28 books on pediatrics and child development and more than 200 scientific <br />papers). He is best known to the public for his print media and television appearances. <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT: <br />San Bernardino, San Diego and Riverside counties will be involved in a collaborative effort to <br />effect change in the current delivery system of "Safety Net" services as outlined in Dr. <br />Brazelton's "Touchpoints" program. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />There will be no general fund impact. Subsequent funds will be raised by sponsors located in <br />San Bernardino, San Diego and Riverside counties. If the revenue cannot be raised, we will not <br />request from the general fund and will cancel or allow another agency to take over. All revenue <br />from sponsors will be placed in account no. 206-7200-7202-7847 and expenditures will be <br />generated out of the funds from this account. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the Council award a contract with T. Berry Brazelton as a sole source vendor <br />in the amount of $20,000.
