CITY OF COLTON <br />EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE MANAGER <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the direction of the Public Works Director, supervise, evaluate and participate in the work <br />of maintenance personnel responsible for maintaining, inspecting and repairing the full array of <br />vehicles and equipment within City service; ensure safe work practices, work quality and <br />accuracy; maintain appropriate work records which may include time sheets, work in progress <br />and inspection documents; serve as a technical resource for assigned mechanics. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Equipment Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring that all City vehicle and <br />equipment maintenance needs are met and that all administrative records regarding equipment <br />maintenance as well as the disposal of hazardous waste are maintained. This classification is <br />distinguished from the classification of Maintenance Supervisor by the performance of more in- <br />depth management and supervisory responsibilities including budget administration, and <br />specification development. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Exercises direct supervision over assigned technical maintenance staff. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Plans, coordinates, prioritizes, monitors and participates in the work of equipment <br />maintenance personnel responsible for the maintenance, inspection and repair of the City's <br />inventory of vehicles and equipment. <br />• Assigns work to mechanics; monitor work activities to ensure safe work practices, work <br />quality and accuracy; ensure compliance to applicable rules, policies and procedures. <br />• Performs the more difficult and complex duties of the work unit including maintaining all <br />State and Federally mandated administrative and inspection records. <br />• Participates in the development of policies and procedures; makes recommendations <br />regarding the acquisition of new vehicles and equipment to higher level personnel. <br />• Develops schedules and methods for performing assigned duties; maintains appropriate work <br />records and documents which may include timesheets inspection reports and work orders; <br />prepares statistical and/or analytical reports on operations as necessary. <br />• Participates in the selection and training of mechanical maintenance personnel; assumes <br />responsibility for motivating and evaluating assigned personnel; provides necessary training; <br />initiates discipline procedures as is appropriate. <br />• Reviews vehicle operating reports, noting repairs and maintenance completed; maintains <br />records of maintenance history. <br />• Ensures that assigned work area and areas of responsibility meet all City, State and Federal <br />regulations including vehicles meeting the State mandated BIT program regulations. <br />• Personally maintains and inspects critical areas of operation and responsibility including <br />overhead cranes, air compressors, and underground storage tanks that hold hazardous waste; <br />
