Garcia, City ManaglY <br />FROM: Thomas K. Clarke, Utility Director"` <br />SUBJECT: Proposed Travel Cost Over $1,000 Per Person <br />BACKGROUND <br />Pursuant to Resolution No. R-26-97 "... Relating to City Employee Travel", a request is being submitted <br />for travel and expenses which will be in excess of $1,000 per traveler. Attendance is in the interest of the <br />City and the travel is for city -related business or educational purposes. <br />DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS <br />The exact purpose of the travel is as follows: <br />For the Substation Test Technician to travel to Dallas, TX, May 22-26, 2000, to attend an AVO <br />International Training Institute course titled "Protective Relay Maintenance, Solid -State". In addition to the <br />lectures given, there are exercises to teach troubleshooting and problem -solving involving relay <br />application and testing. Certification in Solid -State Protective Relays requires passing both a practical <br />and written examination. <br />BREAKDOWN OF EXPENSES ARE AS FOLLOWS: <br />Registration <br />$1,495.00 <br />Hotel $67.85 x 5 Days <br />339.25 <br />Per Diem $40.00 x 5 Days <br />200.00 <br />Airfare <br />330.00 <br />Ground Transportation <br />TOTAL *$2,364.25 <br />*There will be a cost -savings, if the classes are moved to Southern California as <br />is in the planning stages by AVO at this time. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are appropriated in Account No. 520-8000-8003-2280-0930-200 in the 1999-OOFY budget. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT - None. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the proposed travel cost for the Substation Test <br />Technician. <br />APPROVED DISAPPROVED Item #16 <br />
