CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE I/II CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />• Receives and processes applications, business licenses and service requests from customers; <br />and calculates deposits. <br />• Collects payments from customers for utility bills, business licenses, cemetery payments, <br />yard sale permits, transient occupancy tax and other appropriate fees; responds to questions <br />from customers. <br />• Balances daily receipts to moneys received and prepares revenue summary sheets. <br />• Conducts record keeping activities of closed and/or delinquent accounts; refers accounts to <br />collections personnel and issues refund checks as is appropriate. <br />• Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, files and financial statements of assigned duties. <br />• Processes and calculates a variety of fees and/or permits including yard sale permits, <br />cemetery, police reports, dog license, transient occupancy tax and returned checks. <br />• May represent the City in Small Claims Court. <br />• Performs a variety of other clerical office duties including answering the telephone, using a <br />computer to research accounts, data entry, filing and gathering information. <br />• Performs other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning kneeling, <br />bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily office activities. The position also <br />requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing statistical <br />reports and data, using a computer key board. Additionally, the position requires near and far <br />vision in reading correspondence and using the computer, and acute hearing is required when <br />providing phone and face-to-face service. The need to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and <br />documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for a Customer Service Representative. A typical way of obtaining the <br />required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of one year of experience providing <br />customer service or the performance of related work, and a high school diploma. No <br />experience is necessary for the Customer Service Representative I. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid, class C California driver's license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Basic operations and services of a customer service program. <br />Proper public contact and telephone methods and techniques. <br />Modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software. <br />Principles and practices of customer service. <br />Reference methods and techniques and sources used in customer service work. <br />
