ASSISTANT CITY LIBRARIAN CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />• Participate in the development and administration of the annual budget for assigned <br />sections; participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials <br />and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments. <br />• Serve as a liaison for the Library Department with other departments and outside <br />agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues. <br />• Serve as staff on a variety of committees; prepare and present staff reports and other <br />necessary correspondence. <br />• Provides responsible staff assistance to the City Librarian. <br />• Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and <br />innovations in the field of library science. <br />• Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. <br />• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, <br />skills, and abilities necessary for an Assistant City Librarian. A typical way of <br />obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of three (3) years <br />of directly related professional experience in public library administration, and a <br />Master's Degree in Library and Information Science or a related field. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Operations and standard operating procedures of a Library services program. <br />Principles and practices of program development and administration. <br />Complex principles and practices of library administration. <br />Principles and practices of budget administration. <br />Methods and techniques of supervision, training, and motivation. <br />Applicable state and local laws, codes, and regulations. <br />Modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software. <br />Methods and techniques for basic report preparation and writing. <br />Methods and techniques for record keeping. <br />Automated library systems and databases. <br />Ability to: <br />Plan, organize, and direct the work of subordinate staff. <br />Select and supervise subordinate staff. <br />Manage and oversee the operations and activities of the Library. <br />Courteously respond to community issues, concerns and needs. <br />Analyze a complex issue and develop and implement an appropriate response. <br />
