CITY OF COLTON INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: CITY ATTORNEY FROM: TERESA S. DELGADO Acting City Clerk SUBJECT: SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION DATE: February 24, 2000 Yesterday, I called Sharon Beringson, Elections Technician of the Registrar of Voters, and left a voice- mail message. As I had not heard from her by 6:00 P. M., I faxed a letter telling her that the City was getting ready to call a special municipal election and I inquired if ROV could conduct the election and asked for an estimate of cost. Sharon responded this morning and said she had been in meetings all day. I told her that the Council had given direction to conduct the information at the earliest possible time. She reviewed GC Section 36512 and pointed out that that "the special election shall be held on the next regular established election date not less than 114 days from the call of the special election." She indicated that there was no June primary as it was an even -numbered year and the NEXT REGULAR ESTABLISHED ELECTION DATE was November 7, 2000. She asked if the Council had enacted an ordinance pursuant to GC Section 36512(c)(1). I told her that the City had no such ordinance. I have prepared the documents to present to Council on March 7 and have included the date provided by Registrar of Voters. Copies are attached for your review. Encs. Letter Reso (2)
