Planning Commission Meeting <br />Minutes of February 8, 2000 <br />Page 6 of 8 <br />Vice -Chairperson Oliva left the meeting at 8:05 p.m <br />Commissioner Suchil indicated agreement with Commissioner Prieto's concerns about <br />the lack of justification. Mr. Soto stated that Staff could provide the Commission with <br />their recent approvals of Major Variances for landscaping reductions. He stated that <br />the Major Variance is a process in the system that allows for such requests. <br />Commissioner Chavez indicated that the Commission should try and enforce the <br />landscaping requirements set by the Ordinance. <br />Public Hearing Oaened <br />Ed Bonadiman, 588 West Sixth Street, San Bernardino <br />Mr. Bonadiman briefly explained the usage of the property and the necessity for the <br />reduced landscaping. He indicated where the landscaping would be placed on the <br />property. He stated that due to the size of the equipment being utilized, they would be <br />unable to add additional landscaping. <br />Commissioner Chavez questioned what the fencing would be. (Inaudible <br />conversations) Mr. Derleth inquired as to whether the prior approval included a block <br />wall and indicated that if it did, this request would not affect that prior approval. Mr. <br />Soto stated that what is before the Commission today is strictly the request for <br />reduced landscaping and not modification to the prior approval by the Commission. <br />Commissioner Suchil indicated that he would like to see the landscape plan showing <br />what exactly would be placed in the landscaped areas. Mr. Bonadiman stated that <br />landscape plans are very expensive. Chairperson Vilches stated that the Commission <br />would like to see the landscape plans. <br />Bud Lasko. South of 224 West Congress, Colton <br />Mr. Lasko stated that his property is south of the location and that he feels that what <br />landscaping the applicant is proposing is more than adequate. <br />Commissioner Prieto stated that he is in favor of the Major Variance. He indicated <br />that he trusts Staff to ensure that the property is well landscaped and enhances the <br />area. <br />Public Hearing Closed <br />Chairperson Vilches expressed concern with the amount of landscaping the applicant <br />is requesting to be reduced. Commissioner Suchil indicated that he is unhappy with <br />the lack of detail on the plans. Mr. Bonadiman indicated on the plans provided to the <br />Commission where the landscaping would be placed. <br />Mr. Soto highlighted his map to show the Commission where the landscaping would <br />be.
