LEAD EQUIPMENT MECHANIC CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />• Assist the Equipment Maintenance Manager in preparation and monitoring of division budget <br />and expenditures. <br />• Perform related duties as assigned. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, <br />turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand <br />movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision <br />when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. Lifting of equipment and supplies <br />weighing 25 pounds or more is required. Additionally, the incumbent may work in outdoor <br />weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating <br />chemicals which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants, The nature of the <br />work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and <br />equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic <br />conditions and often work with constant interruptions. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Four years of increasingly responsible experience performing automotive and equipment <br />maintenance and repair duties. Formal or informal education or training, which ensures <br />the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance and a high <br />school diploma with some specialized training of gas and diesel powered equipment. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License. <br />Possession of a valid Refrigerant Certification. <br />KNOW LEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of - <br />Complex principles and practice of equipment maintenance. <br />Principles and practices of budget administration. <br />Methods and techniques of supervision, training and motivation. <br />Applicable Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations. <br />Operational characteristics of equipment maintenance standard equipment. <br />Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. <br />Methods and techniques for record keeping. <br />Basic principles of mathematics. <br />Operation, care and preventive maintenance techniques for light and heavy equipment. <br />Ability to: <br />Make mechanical repairs to a variety of City power driven and mechanical equipment. <br />Evaluate and prioritize assigned work activities. <br />Plan, organize and direct the work of subordinate staff. <br />Supervise and oversee the operations and activities of equipment maintenance. <br />Apply applicable laws, codes and regulations. <br />Read and interpret map, sketches, drawings, specifications and technical manual <br />Perform labor intensive manual tasks for extended periods of time. <br />Respond to issues and concerns from City departments and personnel. <br />
