Item #12
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 2, 2002
TO- HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: AMER JAKHER, CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT
BETWEEN THE CITY OF COLTON AND THE CITY OF SAN
BERNARDINO FOR CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF
TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT HUNTS LANE AND COOLEY LANE
DATE: MARCH 25, 2002
BACKGROUND:
A request to solicit Bids for the Construction of a Traffic Signal at Hunts Lane and Cooley Drive
was authorized by Council at the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting of July 17, 2001 (See
Exhibit "A"). The proposed traffic signal is actually located at the T -intersection of Hunts Lane
and Cooley Lane.
The Reche Canyon Road/Topanga Way and Reche Canyon Road/Shane Drive/Mobile Home Estates
Traffic Signals Project was originally put out for public bid May 25, 2001, upon receiving Council
approval at the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting of May 15, 2001 (See Exhibit "B"). There
were no Bid Proposals received and so a request was made to combine these traffic signals with the
proposed traffic signal at Hunts Lane and Cooley Lane (See Exhibit "C").
In December of 2001, the City started the process of re -advertising the project. Areviewofbothsets
of plans at this time indicated additional work to be done. All three (3) traffic signals are currently
being redesigned.
The proposed Traffic Signalization Project Plans, Contract Documents and Specifications are currently
being reviewed and advertisement for public bid is tentatively scheduled for April 1, 2002 with a Bid
Opening Date of May 7, 2002. Contract is scheduled to be awarded to the Lowest Responsible Bidder
at the City Council Meeting of May 21, 2002 and construction is anticipated to start no later than June
19, 2002 (See Project Schedule, Exhibit "D").
