AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF COLTON AND <br />THE COLTON JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT <br />THIS AGREEMENT is made and entered into by and between the CITY OF COLTON, through <br />its Police Department, hereinafter "POLICE," and the COLTON JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL <br />DISTRICT, hereinafter "DISTRICT." <br />WHEREAS, POLICE and DISTRICT, have identified a need to provide additional law <br />enforcement at DISTRICT'S school sites; and <br />WHEREAS, POLICE and DISTRICT share common goals that include the provision of <br />programs within DISTRICT'S jurisdiction that address the needs of students at -risk; and <br />WHEREAS, POLICE and DISTRICT desire to work cooperatively toward these goals by <br />entering into this Agreement to place one (1) Police Officer as a School Resource Officer on <br />the campus of Colton High School to assist the DISTRICT as an active and visual deterrent <br />to aberrant behavior and thereby enhance DISTRICT'S campus control and student protection; <br />IT IS THEREFORE AGREED AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. TERM — This Agreement shall be effective from July 1, 2002, through June 30, 2003, <br />unless prematurely terminated as described in Paragraph 8. <br />2. SCOPE OF SERVICES <br />a) POLICE agrees to provide one (1) Police Officer to serve as a School Resource <br />Officer, hereinafter called "OFFICER," who will be assigned to the Colton High <br />School campus. The duties of the OFFICER shall include provision of class <br />presentations on relevant law enforcement issues, counseling of students and their <br />parents, serving a liaison role between the educators employed by the DISTRICT, <br />the School Attendance Review Board (S.A.R.B.), the Probation Department, other <br />law enforcement officials, conducting student investigations, performing witness <br />duties at student expulsion proceedings, and filing Police reports on behalf of the <br />City of Colton, in addition to performing other related duties. <br />b) It is understood that OFFICERS will be assigned to the DISTRICT on a full-time <br />basis. Scheduling will be arranged to be mutually beneficial to both parties while <br />remaining consistent with the OFFICER'S current MOU. Generally, officer's <br />schedule will, at a minimum, cover all regular school days and the student arrival <br />and departure times. <br />c) DISTRICT agrees to comply with all reasonable requests of POLICE necessary to <br />the performance of OFFICER'S duties under this agreement. DISTRICT agrees to <br />furnish space at said high school for use by OFFICERS while performing above <br />described services. <br />d) Attached and incorporated by this reference are Exhibit A, "Memorandum of Under- <br />standing between Colton Unified School District and City of Colton Police <br />Department, " and Exhibit B, "Community Policing Partnership " which further explain <br />the scope or services. <br />Page I of 7 <br />
