Item #3 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF March 26, 2002 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />i <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief <br />SUBJECT: Public Hearing to Discuss the City's Weed Abatement Program <br />DATE: March 6, 2002 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Annually, each Spring and Fall, the Fire Department administers the City's Weed Abatement <br />Program. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />At the regular City Council Meeting on March 5, 2002, the City Council approved Resolution <br />Number R-31-02 declaring weeds, rubbish and trash a public nuisance and directing the Fire <br />Chief to give notice and provide for the abatement. <br />At this time, the City is entering into the Spring Program. Notices have been sent to all vacant <br />property owners as identified and reported from the San Bernardino County Tax Assessor. <br />Abatement proceedings are scheduled to begin May 1, 2002. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />Those parcels identified by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as being possible habitat for the <br />Delhi Sands Flower Loving Fly have been noticed with recommendations on contacting the <br />Wildlife service for accepted abatement procedures. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff requests Council's approval to begin the Annual Weed Abatement Program. <br />Report Prepared By: Alan Sork, Fire Marshal <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />City Attorney: Finance Director: <br />OTHER: <br />
