Approve and Adopt RESOLUTION NO. R-133-02
DATE: November 7, 2002
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this amendment is to modify the scheduled work hours for School Resource Officers
(hereinafter referred to as "SRO's"). This request has been reviewed by the Assistant City Manager, the
Association President and the Chief of Police.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Schedule changes are necessary to provide better services to community schools, enhancing the partnership
between schools and the Colton Police Department, strengthening relationships between students and Police
Officers.
Additionally, the proposed modified work schedule will aid in attracting qualified Police Officers to serve
as SRO's, to provide a positive reduction in the crime rate associated with truancy and other crimes
involving students attending school. This will further promote the effective management of police
resources.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: All funds have been previously approved with the 2002/2003 budget, accrued
compensatory time will be offset by the mandatory time taken.
ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
Staff recommends that the Members of the City Council accept the agreement between the City of Colton
and CPOA and approve the amendment to the MOU to modify scheduled work hours for School Resource
Officers; approve and adopt RESOLUTION NO.
