SymBio application:
➢ Reduced O&M costs with two-ditch operation compared to three-ditch operarion
➢ Energy savings of at least 50°/a compared to existing operation of Plant #3
➢ Improved sludge settling chazacteristics (see Rochelle, IL case study in Section 3)
➢ Effluent TIN below 10 mg/L
➢ Real-tune biolo9cal activity information from NADH fluorometer with minirnal
maintenance
➢ Payback of less than 20 months (excluding installation costs, assuming energy costs
$0.10/kWhr)
In addition to the benefits listed above, a possible benefit that could resuit from this application
is increased treahnent capacity. Our process calculations indicate that Plant #3 could handle an
average flow of 7.5 MGD (150% increase) assuming comparabie loadings. Depending upon the
degree of success of this installation, a plant capacity re-rating could extend the timeline for
future plant upgrades.
SymBio technology has been successfully implemented at a similar oxidation ditch plant in Big
Beaz City, CA resulting in a 33% reduction in energy consumption and an effluent TIN below
3.0 mg/L (see case study in Section 3). The modifications made to that plant aze the basis for the
following proposal.
---tt4ttal-g1anTpgadto-SxmBio — -----
The initial plant upgrade will address cturent operating conditions. For the initial installation we
recommend the following package at a cost of $165,100.00 (excluding taxes and installation
costs):
➢ SymBio process operating license for two-ditch operation
➢ One (1) NADH fluorometer and mounting bracket
➢ Two (2) DO meters and mounting brackets
➢ One (1) control panel with locai HIvII/SCADA system
➢ Two (2) VFDs (100 hp, 3-phase, 460 VAC) without mounting hazdware
➢ Field service and operator training, six (6) days, three (3) trips maximum
➢ Remote monitoring for two (2) months using pcAnywhere remote access software
➢ Shipping & Handling
Saddleback Environmental Equipment will address sepazately the field installation of the
SymBio system, including the mounting of the probes and the installation of the SymBio
control panel and VFDs. For process control we recommend installing an NADH fluorometer
and a DO meter in Ditch #3, a DO meter in Ditch #4, VFDs at the existing MCCs for the surface
