Based upon such inquiries and comparisons to other permitted processes of the City, and upon <br />information garnered from surrounding cities, the following standards are proposed: <br />Prior to the issuance of a Construction Permit to any licensed contractor, subcontractor, <br />developer, or utility company to work within the public right-of-way, a general liability <br />policy in the form of an original Certificate of hisurance, issued by a reliable insurance <br />company approved by the City, with minimum liability limits of $1,000,000 for each <br />occurrence and naming the City of Colton as "Additional Insured", to cover such liability <br />and to insure the City from any and all liability of every nature whatsoever connected <br />directly or indirectly with any such work, must be submitted. <br />The first reading of Ordinance No. 0-03-Q , an ordinance of the City of Colton amending <br />Ordinance No. 875, § 7 (part), (a), (b), 1955, regarding form and amount of general liability <br />insurance to be submitted to the City prior to the issuance of any permit for construction work <br />within the public right-of-way, is hereby presented. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />As this requirement pertains only to the amount and type of insurance required for permitted work, <br />there is no additional impact upon the environment. <br />FINANCIAL/FISCAL IMPACT <br />This requirement will reduce the amount of time currently expended by staff to provide information <br />to Risk Management for the mitigation of potential claims against the City. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff respectfully recommends that Council adopt Ordinance No. 0 -03 -_O, -i_ upon second reading <br />of said Ordinance at the City Council Meeting of May 6, 2003. <br />Attachment: Ordinance No. 0-03-0_ <br />Report prepared by Dusty Dappen, Engineering Tech 11. <br />_Ai:1 ND:1 2E Pt�1Z t .)BJ',U2(Y "� L>D-' '4403 E TO I,Lb ISf .NSL PANT RGOGIRI A1E_NI IS.dw <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />City Attorney: Finance Director: <br />City Manager:,r OTHER:' <br />
