Item #13 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF MAY 6, 2003 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER n <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO AWARD ENGINEERING DESIGN <br />CONTRACT FOR SLURRY SEAL PHASE I PROJECT AND RECHE <br />CANYON ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT TO <br />GK AND ASSOCIATES IN THE AMOUNT OF $32,268 <br />DATE: April 28, 2003 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On February 19, 2003, request for proposals were solicited from three firms to provide Engineering <br />Design Services for the Slurry Seal Project. The firms were Cal Vada from Corona, H.P. <br />Engineering, Inc. from Redlands, and GK & Associates from Diamond Bar. However, only one <br />company (GK and Associates) submitted a bid for Engineering Design, with a cost of $20,000.00. <br />Additional engineering design was added to the scope of work to include the Reche Canyon Road <br />Improvement Project, which would extend from Washington Street to approximately half -mile <br />south on Reche Canyon Road. The cost of this engineering design is $12,268. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />The scope of work for the Slurry Seal, Phase I Project consists of preliminary engineering, <br />developing an inventory of streets within District 5 and 6 that will receive slurry seal, evaluation of <br />the pavement surface conditions, and preparation of Specifications and construction estimates for <br />the project. <br />The scope of work for the Reche Canyon Road Improvements Project consists of topography and <br />surveying, design of street improvement plans (including curb/gutter/sidewalk on westerly side), <br />design the storm drain system to relieve the flooding problem, Hydrology/Hydraulic study, and <br />preparation of Specifications. <br />
