CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />I -UK UUUNUIL WILL I INN Ut- <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Bill Smith — Community Services Director G' <br />SUBJECT: Request Approval for Part-time Salary Increase for <br />Recreation Specialist Classification <br />DATE: November 17, 2004 <br />Item #8 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Currently, the Community Services Department employs seven (7) part-time Recreation <br />Specialists. The Recreation Specialist position has not had a salary increase since <br />January, 2002. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />Recreation Specialist is the highest part-time job classification in the Community Services <br />Department. These individuals are instrumental in assisting with program planning and <br />facility supervision. They serve as assistants to supervisors in the department. The <br />current salary range for this position is $9.02 to $9.94 per hour. Based on a survey of <br />surrounding cities for comparable positions, the data suggests that a salary increase is <br />warranted. Due to the responsibilities of this position, it is important to ensure that the pay <br />range for this position is competitive to prohibit excessive turn -over and assure program <br />stability. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The maximum financial impact of this increase, through June 30, 2004, is approximately <br />$7,000. This increase will be absorbed in the current approved budget, under account <br />number 100-6200-6202-1040.
