CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF July 6, 2004 TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council FROM: Bill Smith, Recreation Services Manager PREPARED BY: R. Hugh Margesson, Early Childhood Education Director SUBJECT: Approve and Accept Pre- Kindergarten Resource Grant for Colton Early Childhood Education State Pre -School Program DATE: June 14, 2004 Item #10 BACKGROUND: For four years, Early Childhood Education has provided state pre-school services for children (3-5 years of age). Periodically, the state makes Child Care and Development funds available in the form of grants for equipment/materials. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: The State of California has approved a Pre -Kindergarten Resource Grant, in the amount of $1451 for the Colton Early Childhood Education Program. For fiscal year 2004/05, the Pre - Kindergarten Resource Grant will provide funds for the refurbishing and replacing of worn equipment/materials at Sierra Vista Pre -School, to meet licensing standards. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no general fund impact. The funds should be placed into revenue account # 206- 5580, and there should be a corresponding increase in the appropriation to expenditure account # 206-7200-7203-2304 by the grant amount of $1,451. CONFLICT OF INTEREST: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council accept and approve the FY 2004 — 05 General Fund Pre - Kindergarten Resource Grant and Resolution.
