POLICE SERVICES TECHNICIAN CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 3 of 3 <br />Possession of a valid class "C" California Driver's License. <br />Completion of a 24-hour P.O.S.T. module, PC 832 Arrest, Search and Seizure <br />certification within 3 months of employment. <br />Possession of the Southern California Association of Code Enforcement Officers <br />(SCACEO) Basic Course Certification Program within 24 months of hire/appointment. <br />Note: Assignments may require specialized license or certificates, as determined <br />by the department. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SHILLS: <br />Knowledee of - <br />City and State policies, rules and regulations regarding building codes and ordinances, <br />zoning, safety, public nuisance, abatement laws. <br />Applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations affecting the work of the department. <br />Proper procedures for the maintenance of activity logs and reports. <br />Warrant process. <br />Search and seizure laws. <br />Safety techniques. <br />Basic interviewing techniques, report preparation and writing techniques. <br />Basic medical protocol for treatment of animals. <br />Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. <br />Proper English, spelling and grammar. <br />General office procedures. <br />Modern office equipment, including computer and applicable software. <br />Ability to: <br />Learn investigative principles and practices and apply in insuring compliance with <br />appropriate codes and ordinances. <br />Learn regulations and requirements of court evidence. <br />Enforce City codes and ordinances, laws and regulations. <br />Understand legal property descriptions and read boundary maps. <br />Analyze and compile technical information on ordinance investigations and violations. <br />Utilize unique or obscure resources to obtain information or compliance. <br />Mediate and reach satisfactory resolution of issues between disputants, including <br />owners/tenants, tenants/property managers, and neighbor/neighbor, among others. <br />Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public. <br />Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. <br />Initiate work activities and pursue work assignments independently in the field. <br />Respond to issues and concerns from the community. <br />Speak English/Spanish highly desirable. <br />Skill To: <br />Effectively operate a motor vehicle on City streets. <br />Operate computer and applicable software. <br />Approved by Council: <br />
