POLICE SERVICES TECHNICIAN CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />• Assist Crime Prevention Division in the presentation of community and civic programs and <br />projects. <br />• As assigned, may assist sworn officers with investigations. <br />• Impound property. <br />• Compile, tabulate and verify statistical data and reports. <br />• Reports hazards. <br />• Administer first aid as necessary. <br />When assigned to Animal Control <br />• Responds to citizen complaints pertaining to dead and stray animals within the City limits; <br />removes dead animals from streets and other public property; and takes into custody stray <br />and/or vicious animals that are a nuisance to the public. <br />• Patrols City streets and looks for any acts that are in violation of City, State or Federal laws, <br />codes, regulations, and/or ordinances including stray dogs or cruelty to animals; issues <br />citations to animal owners for failure to comply with rules and regulations. <br />• Investigates reports or complaints of cruelty to animals and takes corrective action. <br />• Responsible for the care of animals that are in custody; feeds and waters animals as <br />necessary; transports animals to the County pound; decides on the disposition of animals. <br />• As is necessary, may be required to euthanize animals. <br />When assigned to Dispatch <br />• May perform Police Dispatch duties as assigned <br />• Perform other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, <br />turning, kneeling, bending stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand <br />movements in the performance of daily duties. Incumbents may be required to lift objects <br />weighing 60 pounds or more. The position requires near, far, and color vision. Incumbents work <br />in all weather conditions, around moving traffic and frequently deal with irate members of the <br />public. As needed, the incumbent may work outdoors in all weather conditions including wet, <br />hot, and cold. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to drive motorized vehicles, <br />work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for a Police Services Technician. A typical way of obtaining the <br />required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of three years of responsible clerical <br />and public contact experience. Experience in municipal enforcement, inspection, or <br />investigation is desirable. A high school diploma or the equivalent is required. College <br />coursework in sociology, psychology, law enforcement, business, public administration, <br />planning, code enforcement or related field is desirable. <br />License/Certificate: <br />
