PURPOSE: <br />The City of Colton recognizes the need for City -owned cellular phones and establishes <br />procedures for their authorization, deployment, and use to contain costs, ensure <br />departmental accountability and personal responsibility, and prevent improper use. <br />Excessive personal use or abuse of this privilege can result in loss of the use of the phone <br />and/or disciplinary action. <br />PROVISIONS: <br />The Finance Department will administer the City Cellular Phone Program. <br />To ensure the City is receiving the best cellular phone rates possible, once a year the <br />Finance Department will review the different rate plans available. <br />Employees are responsible for maintaining adequate physical protection of all equipment <br />issued to them by the City. The Finance department shall be notified immediately if any <br />City -owned cellular phones is damaged or stolen. <br />The list of cellular phone users will be reviewed in July of each year by the City Manager <br />to ensure the designated employees continue to demonstrate a need for the equipment <br />they have been issued. <br />POLICY: <br />1 All City cell phones are provided as a tool to conduct City -related business <br />and will be used in a responsible manner by all City employees. <br />2. Approval for the purchase and/or service of cell phones shall lie with the <br />City Manager or his/her designee (hereafter called "I.S. Coordinaton. <br />3. The City recognizes that employees will, on occasion, need to make or <br />receive personal telephone calls or communication.
