CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />PnP r-ni IN1MI MPPTINrZ n;: ni=r-FMRFR 7n 9nns <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />FROM: Bill Smith, Director of Community Services,? <br />SUBJECT: Approve Resolution Authorizing the Acceptance of Grant Funding <br />and Amendment of the Adopted Budget for Fiscal Year 2005-2006, <br />in the Amount of $1,000 <br />DATE: December 8, 2005 <br />ITEM #9 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Colton Public Library's Homework Assistance Center has received authorization for grant <br />funding, in the amount of $1,000, from the Wal-Mart Store in Colton. These funds will be used to <br />purchase educational materials to support the "Families for Literacy" and Homework Assistance <br />Programs in the Library Division of the Community Services Department. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Colton Public Library endeavors to reach preschool, elementary and middle school-age <br />students and their parents who are in need of basic reading instruction and tutoring. We work with <br />these individuals so that parents can better teach their children, and together they can overcome <br />the cultural, educational, and economic disadvantages that transmit poor literacy skills from <br />generation to generation. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />In order to accommodate the receipt of this grant funding, Library revenue account 211-7847 and <br />Library expenditure account 211-6200-7101-2301 will both increase by the grant amount of $1,000. <br />There is no net financial impact to the Library Grant Fund. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST: <br />None <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that City Council approve RESOLUTION authorizing the acceptance this <br />grant funding and amendment to the adopted budget for fiscal year 2005-2006.
