this ordinance will be held at second reading after notice has been published in the
newspaper.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
We have been informed by the County Health Department that until the City adopts the
County ordinance by reference, the initial posting of letter grades will be voluntary. They
anticipate that only those restaurants receiving A grades will be likely to post their scores.
Eventually the County will not permit any restaurant in the City to post grades until the
City adopts the County's ordinance. For that reason, the City Council should consider
adoption of the County Restaurant Grading Ordinance (See Attached).
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None. All inspection costs are borne by the food establishment. Further, the County
Health Department already inspects food establishments in the City. A City ordinance is
required for the posting of letter grades issued by the County Health Department.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council introduce the ordinance, waive further reading,
and set the public hearing on the proposed adoption of this ordinance for February 15,
2005.
Prepared by: Marco A.
