public streets and places to be used in moving said oversized loads would in his <br />opinion be materially damaged. <br />5. Every oversized load permit, or facsimile thereof, in the case annual or other <br />permits which contemplate the use of more than one vehicle, shall be carried in <br />the vehicle or by the operator of the vehicle to which it refers and shall be <br />presented upon demand to any peace officer, or duly authorized city law <br />enforcement officer, traffic officer, or any duly authorized agent of the department <br />of the city charged with the care and protection of the city's public streets and <br />places. <br />6. The City Engineer shall determine and approve the times and dates when an <br />oversized load may be moved, and shall determine and approve the route or routes <br />over which each overload may be moved, giving due consideration to existing <br />underpasses, overhead wires and other obstacles, condition of the streets, and <br />other pertinent conditions. Prescribed routes shall, whenever possible, be <br />confined to truck routes and arterial highways and not local streets. <br />This Ordinance is consistent with Ordinances of surrounding Cities. Staff also inquired of <br />surrounding cities whether they observe and monitor the movement of oversize vehicles through <br />their cities. None of the surrounding cities perform continuous inspection relating to the oversize <br />vehicle movement. Staff also reviewed accident records and found no record of accidents caused <br />by oversize vehicle in the last 3 years.
