CITY OF COLTON <br />PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR <br />DEFINITION: <br />The purpose of positions in this classification is to plan, organize, assign and oversee .field <br />maintenance, repair and reconstruction activities for the Public Works Department. incumbent is <br />responsible for maintaining up to date knowledge of various maintenance, improvement <br />methods, materials, tools and equipment as needed in a municipal Public Works Department. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Production Supervisor is the supervisory level class responsible for planning, organizing, <br />scheduling, assigning, supervising and evaluating the work of maintenance personnel. This <br />classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Administrative Operations <br />Manager in that it does not assume full administrative and management responsibility. <br />Incumbents in this classification are subject to the Alcohol/Drug Testing requirements of the <br />Department of Transportation. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level maintenance personnel. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following): <br />• Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and <br />methods for field maintenance activities; and implement City policies and procedures. <br />• Plan, organize and supervise a maintenance, repair and construction. program. Inspect work <br />being performed. <br />• Participate in the selection of staff; provide and coordinate staff training; work with <br />employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures. <br />• Participate in budget preparation and administration within the assigned area of <br />responsibility; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendation; submit justifications for <br />budget items; monitor divisional expenditures. <br />• Estimate project cost including time, equipment, materials and supplies. <br />• Coordinate assigned field maintenance services activities with other City departments, <br />divisions, outside agencies; coordinate the scheduling of equipment and vehicle maintenance <br />and repair. <br />• Interpret and work from sketches, penciled layouts and blueprints. <br />• Perform any other tasks or functions as deemed necessary to the daily operations of the <br />department. <br />• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course <br />of work. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, <br />turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand <br />movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision <br />when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry, and push tools, <br />equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the <br />incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot, and cold. <br />
