N <br />D <br />Q <br />Q <br />COUNCIL MEETING <br />MARCH 3, 1981 <br />A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Colton was held on the above <br />given date at 7:30 p. m., in the Council Chambers of City Hall, Mayor Gonzales <br />presiding. <br />Mayor Gonzales led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />Invocation was offered by Councilman Leroy Rehrer. <br />ROLL CALL: <br />Council Members present were Rehrer, Garcia, and Mayor Gonzales. Also present <br />were City Manager Trevino, City Attorney Edwards, and City Clerk Ramos. Absent <br />were Councilwoman Cisneros and Councilman Hayes due to illness. <br />RECREATION AND PARKS COMMISSION REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Councilwoman Garcia suggested the Council deviate from the Agenda and consider <br />Item No. 21, request from the Colton Youth Football Program for funding. <br />Mayor Gonzales referred to a memorandum from Recreation Director Max Lofy regard- <br />ing a request from the Colton Youth Football League for funds in the amount of <br />$13,000 for equipment, which has been recommended for approval by the Recreation <br />and Parks Commission. <br />23 <br />Mr. John Mosqueda, 495 Lemon Street, President of the Colton Youth Football League, <br />addressed the City Council with regard to the League's request for funds and finan- <br />cial assistance to purchase new helmets and shoulder pads for the players. Mr. <br />Mosqueda stated the present equipment they have been using is very old, completely <br />worn out and dangerous to use. Mr. Mosqueda said the League was unable to raise <br />a substantial amount of funds last year to purchase all of the equipment needed <br />and they were now requesting financial assistance from the City so that the League <br />could continue with their program. Mr. Mosqueda stated the football program is <br />very beneficial to the young boys, many of the high school "stars" started in this <br />program, and the League would like to continue helping these youngsters to partici- <br />pate in a worthwhile and productive sport. <br />Speaking in favor of the request for funds and on behalf of the Colton Youth Foot- <br />ball League were the following: <br />Mr. Rick Juarez, 567 West "F" Street, Colton. <br />Mr. Henry Aldama, 1280 Rialto Avenue, Colton. <br />Mr. Sonny Cortez. <br />Moved by Councilwoman Garcia, seconded by Mayor Gonzales, to refer this request <br />back to Staff for further study and report back to the City Council at the next <br />regular Meeting, March 17, 1981.
