Mayor Gonzales stated Mrs. Hazel Olson, President of the Colton Area
Museum Association, desired to speak on Item No. 12 under the Consent
Calendar, reception for the Design Competition.
Mrs. Olson referred to a letter she had submitted to the Council Members
regarding holding a reception for the Design Competition at the Colton
Museum, stating the Museum Board had unanimously voted to ask the City
Council to consider using the Armory site for the reception because of
the safety factor, accessability and monetary savings. Mrs. Olson stated
this was a much better alternative than using the Museum. Mrs. Olson
said that she and the Board are concerned about the artifacts in the Mu-
seum, the display cases, the use of stairs by our senior citizens, etc.
Mrs. Olson said no one had gotten back to her about this. Mrs. Olson ad-
vised the Colton Area Museum Association is a volunteer group and they
have been working towards making the old library building a Museum since
1983.
City Manager Benest stated he had discussed this matter with Mrs. Olson
and will meet again with her tomorrow to address her concerns and those
of the Board's. Mr. Benest said that Staff and the City Council are very
committed to this building as an historical Museum.
Councilman Lofy assured Mrs. Olson that her concerns, and those of the
Board's, were well received and are being considered. Mr. Lofy apolo-
gized to Mrs. Olson about no one getting in touch with her and assured
her that neither she nor the Board were being ignored.
Councilman Rehrer said his main concern is safety and he felt the Armory
should be used instead of the Museum.
Councilman Rios stated there must have been some contact made if plans
had progressed this far.
Mr. Benest stated this whole matter has been reviewed and work completed
and we are now committed, at this point, to use the Museum.
Councilwoman Cisneros stated that she had received many positive calls
from Board Members about using the Museum for this event.
Mr. Benest again stated that he would be meeting with Mrs. Olson tomorrow
and would make a report to the Council.
Councilman Lofy said he would like to hear from Mrs. Olson afterwards to
see if she was satisfied.
MAYOR AND COUNCTL TTFMS-
United Way Campaign
-^ City Manager Benest read the names of those employees giving their fair
share from their monthly salaries, and the names of department campaigners
3
