Attorney Edwards advised, in adopting an increase in salary, the Council may catch up for the years since 1966 when there was no increase. Com- pensation of Council Members may be increased by five percent for each calendar year from the last adjustment. The result of applying five percent each year starting with $150 in 1966 is shown in the Agenda Material. The salary discussed here is for Council Members. The Mayor may be paid the same. The Mayor may be paid more. It is at descretion of the Council. A Salary change takes effect after the election (or earlier change in membership) if the ordinance is adopted before the election. Attorney Edwards stated upon direction of the Council, an appropriate ordinance will be prepared and presented. Mr. Edwards requested direction as to the salary for the Mayor as well as, for the other Members of the Council. Mayor Gonzales asked for the desire of the Council Members. Councilman Rios asked what the top allowable salary would be. Attorney Edwards responded an amount of at least $438.79 per month. Moved by Councilman Rios, seconded by Councilwoman Garcia, to direct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance setting the Mayor and City Council Members salary at $400 per month. Unanimous vote. The City Council recessed at 7:50 p. m., to take up the business of the Redevelopment Agency for the City of Colton, and reconvened at 8:00 p.m., all Members present. CLOSED SESSION: The City Council adjourned to Closed Session at 8:03 p. m., to discuss Personnel Matters, pursuant to Government Code Section 54957, and re- convened at 8:58 p. m., all Members present.
