Moved by Councilwoman Cisneros, seconded by Councilman Rios, to approve <br />the Consent Calendar. Unanimous vote. <br />Memorial Day Services <br />Mayor Gonzales stated there were several representatives here this even- <br />ing from the local Veterans' organizations that wish to be heard on the <br />proposed ceremonies at Hermosa Cemetery on Memorial Day. Mayor Gonzales <br />stated the City will be holding a meeting on Monday or Tuesday with the <br />Cemetery Commission and anyone from the Veterans' organizations that <br />wish to attend. <br />Richard Arroway, Commander of the American Legion Post 155, 821 West <br />"H" Street, Colton, spoke on behalf of his Legion and other Veterans' <br />organizations that have participated in the Memorial Day ceremonies <br />at Hermosa Cemetery. Mr. Arroway stated that have conducted these <br />ceremonies for the last 68 years and he felt there was no need for a <br />change at this point, nor that the City should become involved. <br />Also speaking on behalf of the Veterans' organizations and the proposed <br />ceremonies at Hermosa Cemetery on Memorial Day were the following: <br />Christopher Arroway, 821 West "H" Street, Colton. <br />Art Gray, 813 Herberts Lane, Colton. <br />Lester Swalley, 1257 Colton Avenue, Colton. <br />Mayor Gonzales again invited those interested to attend the Meeting and <br />discuss this matter in greater detail. <br />MAYOR AND COIINCTL TTEMS <br />Proclamations <br />Councilman Rios read in full a Proclamation declaring the week of May 22 <br />through 28, 1988, as TRAFFIC SAFETY WEEK. The Proclamation was accepted <br />by Police Chief Paul Connolly. <br />Councilwoman Cisneros read in full a Proclamation declaring May, 1988, <br />as OLDER AMERICANS MONTH. The Proclamation was accepted by Fred Cordova. <br />Councilwoman Garcia read in full a RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION honoring <br />Robert Warren, Deputy Sheriff of San Bernardino, for his bravery in <br />saving Joseph Corral, a City Crossing Guard, who was viciously attacked <br />by two pit bulls. <br />Police Chief Paul Connolly also presented Deputy Warren with a Plaque <br />from the Police Department, honoring him for his bravery. <br />Mayor Gonzales read in full a RESOLUTION IN MEMORY of Gabriel Castorena, <br />Jr., who passed away in July, 1986. The Resolution acknowledged his <br />many accomplishments and service to the community, and was accepted by <br />Gabriel Castorena, Sr. <br />i <br />
