The City's sensitive problem is public safety, Mayor Gonzales related that the Fire <br />Department's paramedic program is the best in the City. He said that the City's Police <br />Department responded to Los Angeles' recent problem with civil unrest. Not only did they <br />assist in Los Angeles but also enSLJred that the City remained an island of calm. In response <br />to AQ.MD requirements, the City Council approved the 4 -day work week for its employees. <br />He praised the City's employees for a job well done. <br />Mayor Gonzales proposed the broadcasting of City Council meetings as the citizens are <br />interested in the Council's actions. The Youth Center is a goal that Mayor Gonzales urged <br />be brought to fruition. <br />Mayor Gonzales thanked his family, his campaign committee, San Bernardino County <br />Firefighters Local 935 and the voters for their support, <br />City Treasurer Williarns thanked the people for allowing him to be their treasurer, He spoke <br />of the great leap of faith that the City Council conveyed when its members worked together <br />with him to save the City's money. He said this happened because all were willing to work <br />together. Mr. Williams thanked Councilman Roman for being an advocate and a help. He <br />introduced his mother and his wife and expressed appreciation for his wife's support. <br />City Clerk Ramos said she owed a round of applause to the citizens of Colton for allowing <br />tier to serve for the past twenty years as its City Clerk. She felt honored and privileged to <br />to be the City Clerk. She announced that this would be her last term, She was happy to <br />announce that at least 65% of the City's registered voters had voted at the General <br />Municipal Election held November 3, 1992. <br />CORRESPONDENCE: <br />Fire., Inspection Fee <br />Mr. Floyd Smith, 480 North La Cadena, presented the signatures of 60 owners -operators in <br />Colton who are objecting to the new resolution directing them to pay for annual inspection <br />by the Fire Department, He suggested that when times are tough and more money is needed <br />that local businesses are tapped. The Fire Department is a paid department and he could not <br />understand why there must be an annual inspection fee. All businesses were inspected prior <br />to licensing and the idea of paying again does not make sense. <br />Mr. Smith asked the new City Council to look at the ordinance to see if it is reversible. <br />Mayor Gonzales indicated that Mr. Smith's request would be taken under advisement. <br />Councilmember Beltran asked Mayor Gonzales if he could advise the City Manager to <br />complete a report and an ordinance -for Council review and action at the next meeting. <br />City Manager Lewis agreed to corT-iply with Councilmember Beltran"s request. <br />7 <br />
