and the grant is short $250,000. It calls for 30% matching funds and a portion is coming from <br />the Colton Youth Soccer League. <br />(8) CNG Transportation Yard <br />Assistant to the City Manager Kivley gave a brief synopsis of the project. The City is applying <br />for three California Energy Grants that would include electric charging station and parking lot, <br />a Transit Area Center (9 acres along Sperry Drive), and a Pedestrian Parkway. Council <br />approved for an Environmental Analysis at the August 20, 2003 council meeting and <br />approval from Cal Trans is expected soon. <br />(9) Crossing Guards for Student Safety <br />Superintendent Byas indicated that the school district and the City of Colton has a long <br />standing relationship where funding for the Crossing Guards is on a 50%-50% basis between <br />the school district and the City of Colton and hoped it would continue. <br />Chief Heusterberg informed the members, staff has evaluated all the street crossings at each <br />school in the City of Colton and check to see if markings were visible and clear. The Traffic <br />Committee approved red curbing at Lincoln School and a stop sign at 2 n and C Street. <br />(10) Traffic Control at Colton High School <br />Superintendent Byas related to the members, Rancho Ave, east of Colton High School <br />continues to present a safety issue with students crossing the street. <br />Chief Heusterberg realizes it is a problem and officers make random checks but as soon as <br />the patrol car leaves the problem resumes. Staff will continue to evaluate alternatives. Staff <br />completed an application for a Traffic Safety Grant of $40,000 to included lighting at cross <br />walks. <br />Consensus from the members, this topic should be discussed with the Ad -Hoc Committee for <br />their recommendations. In the future, possible mediums and controlled turn sights that would <br />assist in traffic control in and around the high school. <br />Superintendent Byas made an open invitation to the Dedication and Grand Opening of <br />Sycamore Hills Elementary School. <br />Mayor Bennett invited the members to attend a September 11"' Memorial Ceremony at <br />Fleming Park. <br />ADJOURNMENT: <br />At 8:03 p.m. Mayor Bennett and President Ibarra declared the Joint City Council and Colton Unified <br />District School Board of Education adjourned. <br />C ROLINA P.
