Tax Imposed. i <br />5! <br />For the privilege of occupancy in any hotel, each <br />8i <br />7 I� <br />transient is subject to and shall pay a tax in the amount of <br />four percent (4%) of the rent charged by the operator. Said tax <br />8i <br />91constitutes a debt owed by the transient to the city which is <br />10� extinguished only by payment to the operator or to the city. The <br />I <br />11 transient shall pay the tax to the operator of the hotel at the <br />12 <br />time the rent is paid. If the rent is paid in installments, a <br />13 <br />proportionate share of the tax shall be paid with each install - <br />14 <br />1I ment . The unpaid tax shall be due when the transient ceases to <br />15 I <br />16 <br />occupy space in the hotel. If for any reason the tax due is not <br />i <br />17 paid to the operator of the hotel, the Tax Administrator may re - <br />18 quire that such tax shall be paid directly to the Tax Adminis- <br />l9; trator. <br />2SECTION TION FOUR. Exemptions. <br />'I I <br />21 iI <br />I� No tax shall be imposed upon: <br />22 <br />j' (a) Any person as to whom, or any occupancy as to <br />23 I� <br />24 <br />which, it is beyond the power of the city to impose the tax here- <br />25� in provided. <br />26 (b) Any federal or State of California officer or <br />27employee when on official business. <br />- <br />28 (c) Any officer or emforeign of a o gn govern <br />29 <br />went who is exempt by reason of express provision of federal law <br />30 <br />or international treaty. <br />31, <br />No exemption shall be granted. except upon a claim <br />32 <br />11, <br />
