SHEPPARD OVERPASS <br />Approved Date <br />PROPOSED ACTION: <br />Naming the Mill Street Overpass in honor of Harry R. Sheppard, former <br />Congressman from this District. <br />BACKGROUND INFORIALATION: <br />Harry R. Sheppard served in the House of Congress the longest period of any <br />representative from this District, from 1936 to 1965. He was Dean of the <br />California Delegation which was instrumental in the development of the Air <br />Material Command at Norton Air Force Base. He was also partially <br />responsible for the location of Kaiser Steel Corporation in the Fontana area. <br />Mill Street runs from Norton Air Force Base at its Eastern end to the <br />West Boundary of the City of San Bernardino at Eucalyptus, in Rialto; <br />becoming Merrill to Kaiser Steel Corporation, in Fontana. <br />Since Norton Air Force Base and Kaiser Steel Corporation are both geographical <br />extremities to the route served by the Mill Street Overpass, it is fitting that <br />because of Congressman Sheppard's legislative contributions to this area, he be <br />Sn hnnnrecl_ <br />r <br />DL:gb <br />FORM MOTION: <br />ave Light <br />Mayor's Executive Assistant <br />That further reading of the resolution be waived and said resolution adopted. <br />
