1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 <br />14 <br />15 <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />�i <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3803 <br />WHEREAS, San Diego Gas & Electric Company, Los Angeles Department', <br />of Water and Power, the State Department of Water Resources and the Cities of <br />� <br />si applied Glendale, Pasadena, Anaheim, Burbank and Riverside have a e pp ed to the State <br />Energy Resources Conservation and Development.Commission for approval to build <br />a nuclear power plant at a remote desert site in Blythe, California, called the <br />Sundesert Nuclear Project, to serve the electric power needs of the San Diego <br />and Los Angeles regions and the electric power needs of the State Water Project <br />which supplies water to the San Diego region; and <br />WHEREAS, the State Energy .Resources Conservation and Development <br />Commission has approved the site for the Sundesert Nuclear Project and has <br />found that there exists a need for additional energy capacity during the mid <br />E <br />1980's for Southern California; and <br />I WHEREAS, the construction of this nuclear power plant in this <br />i <br />remote site will reduce the Southern California region's dependence upon oil as <br />a fuel for generation of electric power, thereby increasing the reliability of <br />kj electric power supply by reducing dependence upon foreign oil which is subject <br />to interruptions of supply due to international events beyond the control of <br />i <br />state or local officials; and <br />WHEREAS., the California Department of Water Resources is a par- <br />ticipant in the Sundesert Nuclear Project and required the energy which will be <br />derived from the project to economically pump water to Southern California; and <br />WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California <br />E <br />has a vital interest in the Sundesert Nuclear Project by reason of its water <br />!supply contract with the Department of Water Resources; and <br />WHEREAS, the Sundesert Nuclear Project will produce power at the <br />i <br />least cost to the consumer when contrasted to alternative forms of generation; <br />I <br />I <br />
