3. Establish an on-going education and information series for those parents <br />-whose children are involved in the program. A minimum of 4 educational <br />program on topics such as parent effectiveness training, substance abuse, <br />gangs, and neighborhood latchkey strategies will be presented. One topic <br />will be presented each quarter with a minimum of 2 hours per session. <br />Divert at least 80% of the youth referred from the Juvenile Justice <br />System; annually provide for a probation contact check to,deters nine <br />successful diversion. <br />5. Operate a minimum of one school-based counseling program with a minimum <br />of five (5) initial client contactper week. <br />A primary prevention education program will be implemented in grades K <br />through 6. The program element will include self-esteem building, <br />assertion training, communication skills, handling peer pressure, sens- <br />Citi itivity training, and dealing with authority figures. A minimum of 100 <br />youth will participate with a major activity outcome to be a deter to gang <br />ip <br />it <br />participation and emulation and to form a Positive perspective on peer <br />identification. <br />7. A substance abuse component will be introduced.
